Elephant hunting with an Excalibur crossbow!

In April of 2006 history was made when what is believed to be the very first Elephant to be killed with a crossbow in modern times was harvested in Zimbabwe on the eastern shores of Lake Kariba. Bill Troubridge, president of Excalibur Crossbow, took the mature bull Elephant with one arrow on the ninth day of a grueling hunt with PH Carl Mason of African Trails in the Omay tribal region of Zimbabwe. This area is home to one of the largest concentrations of Elephant in Southern Africa, and damage to the vegetation and local crops encourages herd reduction there through sport hunting. "Initially this hunt started out as a quest to demonstrate the effectiveness of our recurve limb crossbows" said Mr. Troubridge, "but it truly ended as a life altering experience". Over a hundred natives from nearby fishing village shared the bounty provided by almost 4000 pounds of boned meat from the downed bull.

Excellent shot, I would be too nervous about missing my shot on an elephant.

See, I'm against hunting for "sport" ie for no reason other then to kill an animal just to kill an animal. But this is hunting done right, for a purpose and as quick and effectively as they can. It's unfortunate that they have to kill it, but sometimes it has to be done.

Yeah it was a Great shot... You were able to hit the broad side of an elephant! LOL OK i thought it was funny. Anyhow, Yeah the meat was put to good use so its an honorable kill. Using a cross bow is even more honorable. I wouldnt say this guy has BALLS though. He has high powered rifles backing him up. Leave the rifles at camp next time and you have Balls.

So what the hell now?? did they leave it to rot on the ground or did the natives get some free meat,i don't deny it was it was a clean shot and the animal did'nt suffer but it is not something that one can cut up and hump it on there back to the nearest vehicle, they sort of weigh a few ton.

Before guns and bows people use to kill them with spears. I think some tribes in Africa still do. Probably a vid on youtube about it.

this looked like a fair hunt for the human and the elephant- the more advanced and capable animal won but it was because of a skillful, 1 hit kill shot that would have barely caught the elephant's attention if it wasn't perfect. The fact that the hunter gave the animal to locals only makes this a better example of a ethical hunt.

You've obviously never tried to make a shot at 300+ yards
